Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie
So I have watched a video pertaining to the movies la jetee and 12 monkeys. I have also read an article pertaining to the same thing. Both mediums of information presented some interesting points. I'm going to share my take always from them starting with the video. Ill start with the fact that la jetee is and old French movie that inspires 12 monkey's. It wasn't any old French movie though. Its a few good info and takeaways mainly of the stories and premises of la jetee/12 monkeys. The most striking how ever that might even help through my short film process has to be the area of the film that expresses how the director of la jetee in particular used the pictures/slides and the impact that the way the slide was used had on the audience. For example the director utilized "cross fades and dissolves for a more dream like reflective ambiance". Not only that 12 monkeys also seemed to have been able to uses things such as camera angles to better express or give insight into the meaning the scene is trying to bring out, for example 12 monkeys used wild angles "to convey a skewed vision of humanity". Now time to switch gears to the article. The article seems to present information from the lens of an opinion, more accurately, a review. This can cause the article to have or seem to have a more bias view on said films. With that out of the way the article seems to be the writer giving high praise to both films. AT the same time the article is also trying to convey a description of the premise of both movies. The article also indeed compares the two films even stating even going as far as to state "12 Monkeys is not meant to be a carbon copy of La Jetée, but rather a longer homage of sorts to Marker’s film". Just like the movie the articles provides info that could help one though their short film process. The article gave us, the reader a bit of insight on angles and sounds that characterized these sets and types of films which could be useful in terms of making ones own short film. With that being said that's what I've gained from both the article and the video.
