Dont be bland have a plan

Image
Location:  The location of the doesn't have a definite location per say. It is more so that the location of the film is multiple locations inside one main location. The main location being The hills of Inveraray apartment complex and the surrounding golf field area. The side location s being the golf courses the home of the characters and a basketball court all with in the residence.  Participants: There are about 4 participants within this film. the first of which being myself. I will play one of the characters within the film. That character being the older and often brutish older brother Dez. My little brother is also one of the actors of the film. He will be playing the conniving little brother. My father will be playing the father...Ironic isn't it(sarcasm). The last participant would be my sister of course but she doesn't play in this movie. She in fact is going to be the videographer/recorder of this film. If the film calls or it my sister me or my brother can be int...

Planning: The tale of 2 brothers

The tale of two brothers The film starts out with establishing shots of the setting. This is done to give the viewer an idea of the area the film and action will take place. This takes place from about slide one to slide 3. On slide 4 we get a mid shot of he door right before the main characters a reached. From slide 5 to 6 we get a panning view of both of the main characters. There is an elder brother named Dez and and an younger brother name wellie. in this scene their both staring viciously towards each other. From slide 7 to 110 they are all close ups. 7 and 8 are just the 2 brothers staring angrily at each other. 9 and 10 actually have the dialogues. Both of the afore mentioned dialogues really just include making very "smart remarks" towards each other. In slide 11 the older brother takes offense. He gets up and proceeds to grip his collar, with a menacing look on his face he proceeds to remark, "what did you say", to his little brother. In slide 12 the little...

Short film research: The Big Break | Action/Comedy Short Film

Image
Ok I Have looked and reviewed the last and final short film. It is a action comedy that goes by the name of The Big Break. First off I want to say that the movie was phenomenal. it was one of the more different films I've ever seen. I say that due to the fact that it merged two very different genres in one. With that being said I do believe that it still retains more of the conventions of an action film. Speaking of convention I am now going to list the conventions of the film as it pertains to the action genre. Ill start off with sound first. Just as with all Action films their are the sounds that are always present include dialogue non-diegetic and diegetic  sound. With regards to the film the an example of diegetic sound is the phone call noise. For non-diegetic it would obviously be the background music. Lastly for dialogue in would most definitely be the the talking amongst the characters/actors. Now with sounds done we are off to mis-en-scenes. Ill start with the costum...

Short film research: Intergalactic Chef Hunts for Rare Spices | Award-Winning Sci-Fi Animated Short

Image
First off I want to say that i can see why this film is an award winning sci-fi short. This film was absolutely spectacular. It was amazing from the animation and  character design to even the  voices and sound effects. With that being said this film could and can perfectly fit into the genre of actions. If one were to examine the conventions of action and compare it to this movie one would see that it near perfectly lines up. Speaking of which lets discuss conventions of actions with reference to this film. First off ill start with sound. Just like any other action the film used mainly 3 different sound types. 1 it used dialogue(when the characters were speaking to each other,  diegetic sound such as the sour of the blaster and the door opening and 3. Non diegetic sound such as during the fight scene. Now we can over on to common mis-en-scene's starting with costume. In this case it matched the scenario which was outer space but in action in general there isn't exa...

Short film research: 3D Animated Sci-Fi Short Film | AUTONOMOUS

Image
This blog is going to cover the sci-fi short titled autonomous. The title said it was a sci-fi but personally I think you could narrow it down even more to sci-fi action. I say this because the film pandered a lot more to the action genre then to any other genre. It also seemed to go along well with the themes and conventions of an action film. which that being said lets delve into conventions starting with sound. With this film just like any other action film contain 3 main sound types diegetic, non-diegetic, and dialogue. Next on the list is common mis en scene. Ill start of with costumes which tend to very but in this film case they were in biker outfits and skin tight uniforms. Now when discussing lighting actions tend to have a mixture of high key and lowkey lighting. Now Onto acting where one can see that acting in an action film requires you to have much more grit aggressiveness and urgency in your character as one could see from any action film including this one. Now...

Short film research: Yellow Belt Fury | Aliens, Karate and Badass Women

Image
Hello! I have just got done watching the film. It seemed to be an action film but I'm not going to lie, it was a bit humorous to me. Nevertheless  it did and maintain most if not all the conventions of action. With that being said I'm going to go through a few of them. First off ill start with the sound. When view the sound their was a plethora of 3 main sounds diegetic sounds and dialogue and non-diegetic sounds. examples of such goes as follows, Diegetic sound when the main character is punching. Dialogue occurred throughout the movie but main between the interaction between the protagonist and her husband. Non diegetic sound occurred manly in the form of back ground music but it mainly showed up in the training montage. Next on the list are common mis-en-scenes. Ill start with the fact that in the action genre costumes can be very diverse. The film had the protagonist change from casual to a martial arts uniform. When viewing the lighting it seem to be a standard mixture b...

Research: How to make a short film

Image
I've watched the "how to make a short film" YouTube video and  I gathered a good amount of useful points tips and ideas. Time to delve into what I've gained. Ill start with the fact that when designing or writing you short film one should only do enough that fit their resources. A good example of such is if I have 20,000 I cant be writing or designing for a 100,000 dollar short film. Another example of such is if I only have a water gun I cannot be looking to make a wwii bunker battle since I don't have the resources for such action. When making a short film one should also think of set ups and payoffs. Their are also multiple types of set ups and pay offs including emotional and story as decreed by the video. another skill that their video speaks of is to do or act in opposite of what the audience is expecting. An example of this could be that an audience is expecting a scene  where a mysteries character is the protagonist father but then you can flip the script...

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
So I have watched a video pertaining to the movies la jetee and 12 monkeys. I have also read an article pertaining to the same thing. Both mediums of information presented some interesting points. I'm going to share my take always from them starting with the video. Ill start with the fact that la jetee is and old French movie that inspires 12 monkey's. It wasn't any old French movie though. Its a few good info and takeaways mainly of the stories and premises of la jetee/12 monkeys. The most striking how ever that might even help through my short film process has to be the area of the film that expresses how the director of la jetee in particular used the pictures/slides and the impact that the way the slide was used had on the audience. For example the director utilized "cross fades and dissolves for a more dream like reflective ambiance". Not only that 12 monkeys also seemed to have been able to uses things such as camera angles to better express or give insight ...

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full length movie

Image
I have just finished watching both the movie 9 and the short film and concluded a couple things from my observations. first off I wanna say that the movies were great. Not the most top spec in terms of quality but the story line and events mad the movie a bit more interesting to me. The characters were so rugged and edgy which pretty much matched up with the scenario. I've noticed that there wasn't any or a lack of words in the movie . Now that I've got that out of the way lets discuss the films in detail. Ill start with the short film first. The film was a bit fast pace most likely to fit with in that short film  time frame. and the development of the characters specifically the main character, was rather quick, turning from a more passive role to the role of a hero. The conventions of the short film is is just like that of a basic action film, a protagonist, an antagonist, a climax point in which most of the action  resides and is coming to a finishing point, and a res...

The Final Decision ;)

Image
So for three blogs I've been detailing the genres that go along with my short film. I settles on 3 genres. the first one is action. the second is sports. the third is drama. in this blog I will be making a decision on which one to focus on. Now straight of the bat I can exclude sports. I say this do to the fact that it seems way more bland as compared to the other genres. not only that but I feel as though i can be more creative with the other genres. With that being said we are left with action and drama. I believe the right decision should be action. If I make it action based i feel as if my creative process would be better. on top of that I have more viewing experience of action so i would be able to better apply conventions of action. Now with that being said I might have to tweak my pitch a bit if I need it to better go along with my genre but for right now I believe my pitch is adequate. The thing that inspired me to pick action over the other genres is because I am an avid ...

Genre Research-Drama

Image
So this is the last of 3 blogs pertaining to genre. The first was the action genre. The second was sports. This blog how every is going to be about a very well known and well received genre by the general public aka drama. when it comes to drama just like any other sports and action, it doesn't have any staple camera angles. The same thing goes for movements and shots. As for common sounds anything can be used by I noticed a couple of different sounds that I have seen used. one of them and the main one in particular is dialogue. cant have any drama if there is no means to speak it to others. There's also diegetic and non-diegetic sound. Now lets switch the topic to costume. there are no specific costume to wear in the drama genre. from what I see though I would like to say that the people in this genre maintain a very casual look to their appearance. theirs no particular lighting either but a do see a lot of 3 point lighting. As peer acting the genre is drama so you would expe...

Genre reserch-sports

Image
Ok in the last blog I was detailing certain conventions for the action genre. Now we are going to the conventions of a sports genre. Well lets start with camera shots. their is no specific shot that always has to be used when filming a sports movie but when they are filmed you usually want to have shots that capture the entirety of the game which would mean long shots would be perfect for this genre. As far as angling goes sports film can really utilize almost any angle, same thing goes for movements but when I watch sports movies their seems to be a lot of Steadicam action, track, Tilt and pan. With regards to costumes its really comes to which sport is the main focus but one thing is for sure their is most likely going to be an inclusion of a jersey. Now for lighting anything is really allowed.  W he n  it comes to acting in sports  film  you  could  act in a  variety  of  ways  but sports films more so call for characters with a...

Genre research-Action

Image
Last blog I introduced the three main genres that my movie could fall into. well in this blog i'm going to go a bit deeper. I will go in on each individual genre ands explain the common conventions you see through out movies in said genres. The First one we will be starting with is action. First lets start of with the typical CAMS of the action genre. Now as far as shots go action movies use a plethora so its extremely difficult to give a list of the common ones. The same applies for camera angles and movements but i can tell you what i see the most when observing action movies. I usually see  a bit of establishing shots(to establish the screen), A good bit of close ups, and mid shots. I also se a lot of high angle shots not to mention handheld and tracking movements. Sounds frequently used in the action genre include dialogue and diegetic/non-diegetic sound . Costumes for said genre come in a variety of shapes and sizes so I cant exactly say that any particular costume if t...

Genres are not going to research themselves

Image
In the previous blog i talked about pitches i made for  my movie. I had a couple of different pitches but eventually I settled on one. The one I settled on involved a sibling rivalry and a football game. I chose this first off because it would be easy to video tape as I have all the materials. secondly with this idea I could get a bit  creative with the rivalry leading up to the football game climax. Now that i had the pitch I had to go and find genres for said pitch.I settled on three different genres. I settles on action drama and sports. I settles on said genres because they'll fit in with my pitch. Action due to the fact that there will be some physical feats done with in the movie. Drama because there will be many conflicts. and sports due to the addition of the game of football. I want to research these genres for a multitude of reasons. First off i'll start with the fact that they will be very interesting to explore as far as conventions go.I love action so it wil...

Lemme pitch it 2 ya

Image
Now i start with the fact that my past week has been hectic. I have to and still do have to turn in assignments left and right. On top of that i've been suffering due to the fact that for the past week i had no drive to do anything Now previously said statements was not just a rant about my personal life but was also leading into my next statement. My pitches that i made are a bit half baked. Frankly there pretty rushed. If were being honest I might either have to tweak it though the year or scrap it and opt for a new one. we will see how that goes but for now I made three separate pitches that i can and am going to chose from. the first being" rivalry between two brothers get heated during a football game". another pitch i created was "running to beat a time  so coach could qualify him to race". The last pitch i made was "trying to escape the endless cycle of death and rebirth or every loved one you know will die/ disappear. As for the pitch out of these ...

my myself and I

Image
Hello again! Over the years I always would rather do things by myself then with someone else. I've just been like that ever since I can remember. That is not to say I've never had fun working in a group. I will say though I was not the most productive while working in a group. Working in groups have never been my strong suite. Ill either do all of the work or non of the work. so for projects such as this coming one it would be a good idea to work by myself. On top of that I don't have a good enough relationship with anyone In A level to want to work with them on a project as such. Also plus when I work by myself I'm more motivated. Ill be more able to focus and do the work. On top of that the variables are way more easier to control. with a group their are a lot of this you cant control. Mainly due to the fact that there are more then one heads. Each of said heads got there own ideas of how something should be done. This at times can cause problems which could lead to...

Back on that Grind(intro)

Image
Hello! It has been a minute since the last time I made a blog but were back. As you know my name is Djonucci st. Juste. Currently I am of 16 years of age. On top of that I'm a tired, sleep deprived high school student. Some of my favorite things to do aka hobbies are sports and skateboarding. Truth be told this intro is going to be a bit lackluster compared tp previous works. As I'm writing this right now I feel as though I am/ gonna tip over at any moment. With that being said back to me. I have very high hopes for this year for both in this class and in general. For this class I don't want to be lost and I want to maintain an A all school year. For the school year my main goal is to get back to a 3.0 gpa . This is so I may do dual enrollment. This year I expect a lot out of myself. I'm willing to work hard to get it. I have to strive for it if want to pass this stage in my life. Said stage is known as the toughest or one of the toughest aka junior year. I can manage ...

Almost there

Image
OK so now in this blog I will tell you about recent events with regards to my project. I had already set up a plan. This plan was detailing how I was going to do my project. The original plan was to get done with filming Wednesday. After the filming I would proceed to editing Thursday. Friday would be my peer review and submission date. Unfortunately the plan got skewed and I had to separate the filming  and do one Thursday and the other Wednesday. The new plan goes as follows. part 1 filming Wednesday. part 2 filming and editing Thursday. Friday is peer review and and submission date. Now I started off the plan by rushing home on Wednesday. As fast as I could. After that  I took my brother witch was my star actor and began filming. It was a very tedious process. The part that was especially tedious was the ball going into the hoop shoots. About near the end of our filming session I noticed something. My phone was upright and not sideways the whole time. it needs to be s...
